Paedophile Anthony King Jailed for Historical Child Abuse

Anthony King, 54, from Bennetts Close, Mitcham, was sentenced on Wednesday, 22 June at Kingston Crown Court for horrific historical sexual abuse against two girls between 2003 and 2007.

Years of Abuse Uncovered

King preyed on his victims when they were aged 13 to 17, subjecting them to years of torment. He pleaded guilty before his trial in July 2021 to multiple counts including penetration assault, sexual assault, rape, and sexual activity with a child against the first victim. During the trial, he also admitted to charges involving the second victim, including child indecency and rape.

Met Police Praise Victims’ Courage

Detective Constable Alison Way, who led the investigation, hailed the outcome as “a fantastic result.” She praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward after years of silence.

“It has been extremely difficult and emotional for the victims to report the abuse they suffered as children,” DC Way said. “While the punishment does not undo the trauma, justice has been served, and I hope they can now begin to move forward.”

Met’s Dedicated Three-Year Probe

  • The inquiry began in 2019 after a victim contacted police.
  • Officer Way developed a trusted relationship with the victims, securing vital evidence through in-depth interviews.
  • King was arrested twice, with police gathering extensive evidence including witness statements and phone data.
  • He faced 15 charges and was committed to trial in 2021.

DC Way urged anyone affected by sexual abuse, historical or recent, to reach out for help.

“You don’t have to face this alone. We are here to support you with no judgement,” she said. “If you prefer not to speak to police, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
