Hampshire Man Busted in Terror Probe – Charged Over Terrorist Publications and Class A Drugs
A 40-year-old man from Hampshire was arrested in a major terror investigation in Portsmouth on Thursday, April 22. Christopher Carey, from Caperns Road, North Anston, was questioned before being released on conditional bail.
Man Charged with Terror Offences and Drug Possession
Carey now faces serious charges: three counts under Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006 for disseminating terrorist publications, plus possession of Class A drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
Intelligence-Led Arrest in South Yorkshire
Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East arrested Carey in South Yorkshire as part of a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation on April 22. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court via video link on Saturday, April 24, where he was remanded in custody.
Police Urge Public to Stay Vigilant
Portsmouth District Commander, Superintendent Clare Jenkins, warned: “We know that many people might be worried about this news, however, we are working closely with Counter Terrorism Policing to keep our communities safe. If you spot anything suspicious—strange activity in public places or online—don’t hesitate to report it. Your tip could be vital.”
