Child Abuser James Torbett Jailed for Extra Three Years
James Torbett has been slammed with an additional three years behind bars following his trial at the High Court in Inverness, adding to his existing sentence.
Detective Inspector Speaks Out
Detective Inspector Jim McLauchlan, from the National Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “We hope this conviction brings some measure of closure to his victim.”
He acknowledged the difficulty victims face when speaking out: “It can take many years before people feel able to report. Our assurance to anyone who may have been a victim of child abuse is that when they are ready to report, we will listen, investigate, and take prompt action to stop further harm.”
Protecting Scotland’s Children is Everyone’s Duty
DI McLauchlan called on the public to stay vigilant: “We are all responsible for safeguarding Scotland’s children. It’s on all of us to spot potential risks and act to prevent abuse.”
He stressed the importance of a safe environment for victims: “We must create a society where victims feel no shame in coming forward about sexual crimes.”
