Man Found Guilty of Kidnap and Sexual Assault at Bond Street Tube
Sharif Abbas Convicted After Sick Attack on Injured Woman
Sharif Abbas, 30, of Nightingale Road, N11, was found guilty of kidnap and sexual assault on Monday, 20 December, following a trial at Southwark Crown Court. He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced during the week commencing 28 February 2022.
Horrific Incident at Bond Street Tube Station
At around 6am on Sunday, 16 June 2019, a 19-year-old woman fell down stairs while crossing platforms at Bond Street tube station. She suffered a serious head injury, exposing her skull, and a broken wrist. Despite her injuries and heavy bleeding, she moved to another platform to wait for help.
Predator Posed as a Helper
Abbas approached the distressed woman, offered assistance, and led her out of the station wearing a high-vis vest. He told her to wait while he scoped out an empty basement nearby, then lured her back under the guise of checking her injuries. It was there he sexually assaulted her.
Police Caught Abbas in the Act
Unbeknownst to Abbas, entering the basement triggered a silent alarm. Police rushed to the scene and found Abbas behind the victim with his hands under her clothing and his jeans unzipped. He was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.
Victim’s Road to Recovery
The woman was taken by ambulance to a West London hospital where she underwent surgery for her broken wrist and treatment for her head injury. She has since made a full recovery from her physical wounds.
