The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a probe into Northamptonshire Police, following a self-referral by the force. Brella had reported domestic abuse in August, leading to Lamba’s arrest on 3 September. He was released on bail under strict conditions, including a domestic violence protection notice (DVPN).

“We will be examining the police response to Ms Brella’s report of domestic abuse made at the end of August this year. We will look into further contact Northamptonshire Police had with Ms Brella concerning the case,” said IOPC regional director Derrick Campbell.

The investigation will rigorously assess whether police missed opportunities to prevent Brella’s death. Campbell extended condolences to Brella’s family and promised transparency.
