£5 Million Drug Haul Van Driver Jailed After Dramatic Police Bust
Van Packed with £5.7M of Cocaine Seized
A 31-year-old man has been locked up after police stopped him driving a van loaded with over £5 million worth of Class A drugs. Nabil Chaudhry, from Northampton, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, 21 August.
Chaudhry admitted possessing criminal property and conspiring to supply Class A drugs during a year-long operation from July 2018 to July 2019.
Police Corner Chaudhry at Doncaster Petrol Station
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command acted on intel and deployed plain-clothes officers to a petrol station on the A1 in Doncaster on 20 July 2019. When Chaudhry arrived in his van, officers quickly moved in.
He resisted arrest, fighting to get back into his vehicle and initially refused to hand over the keys. But cops secured the van and discovered hidden compartments packed with 45 kilos of cocaine—wrapped into 45 individual blocks worth around £5.7 million on the streets.
Encrypted Devices and Cash Trails Uncover Bigger Drug Network
Further investigations, including examining Chaudhry’s encrypted phone, uncovered evidence linking him to distributing an additional 75kg of Class A drugs. Financial probes revealed nearly £50,000 of unexplained cash deposits into his bank account.
He faced additional charges on 8 January for conspiracy to supply drugs and possession of criminal property.
Detective’s Warning: Crime Doesn’t Pay
“The drugs in this vehicle were aimed for London’s streets,” said Detective Inspector Glenn Butler. “There’s a clear link between drug supply and violence we’ve seen recently across the capital. By stopping this shipment, we’ve likely prevented harm to Londoners and visitors.”
“I’m proud of my team’s commitment that led to this sentence. Let this be a warning to anyone thinking of trafficking drugs: we will track you down and bring you to justice.”
