Man Jailed for Homophobic Attack on Bus Stop Victims
Jabbard Mabounda, 31, from Crosby Walk, SW2, has been locked up for 12 months at Inner London Crown Court. He was caught on CCTV after attacking two men waiting at a bus stop on Brixton Road, SW9, on 19 August last year. The victims had just left a Black Pride event when they were assaulted and needed hospital treatment.
Victims Praise Police Support After Brutal Assault
The two men received ongoing support from PC Andy De Santis following the attack. One victim said in a letter, “He has consistently checked on my emotional well-being and provided contacts for victim support. His dedication has gone above and beyond, and I believe he exemplifies the kind of support that is needed in such cases.”
Detectives Condemn Vicious Hate Crime
Detective Inspector Pete Thompson from Brixton slammed the attack as a “vicious, homophobic assault” on innocent men simply waiting for a bus. He called Mabounda a “violent person who has rightly been imprisoned for what he did.”
Thompson praised the victims for their bravery throughout the investigation and reaffirmed the Metropolitan Police’s zero-tolerance stance on hate crime. “Homophobia has no place in our society and will not be tolerated in any form,” he said.
Police Proud of Officers’ Dedication
Detective Inspector Thompson also hailed PC De Santis’s efforts, highlighting the quality and dedication of officers working to keep Londoners safe. “I am hugely proud of the feedback PC De Santis has received, demonstrating the high standards of our officers,” he added.
