Brutal Daylight Machete Attack Lands Wandsworth Man in Prison
Noor Kayani, 37, of Gatton Road, Wandsworth, has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars for a savage machete attack in broad daylight. The Kingston Crown Court handed down the sentence on Friday, 26 February after Kayani’s conviction in December 2020.
Violent Row Ends with Life-Changing Injuries
The violent incident unfolded around 3.30pm on Sunday, 21 June, at Selkirk Road near Tooting High Street. Police were already on the scene for an unrelated issue when a 32-year-old victim staggered in, clutching his arm soaked in blood.
- Officers sprang into action, providing immediate medical aid.
- The man had suffered a deep, slashing wound.
- Detectives established a crime scene and began piecing together the attack.
It emerged that Kayani and the victim, who knew each other, met nearby to discuss a personal matter. Things quickly turned ugly. After Kayani snatched the victim’s phone and refused to return it, he punched him in the face. The victim then saw a blade coming down before being slashed on the arm.
Kayani fled, leaving the victim rushed to hospital where doctors warned he faced months of rehab after serious nerve damage. The injuries were described as life-changing.
Weapon Found, Killer Arrested
The day after the attack, police were tipped off by a refuse collector who found a machete hidden in a sheath on Upper Tooting Road. Forensic tests confirmed the weapon belonged to Kayani.
He was arrested two days after the attack at his home. Kayani was charged, remanded in custody, and later convicted of wounding with intent, carrying a blade, and possessing a controlled Class B drug.
Investigator Vows Tough Justice
“I am delighted we secured such a significant sentence for this atrocious attack in broad daylight,” said Detective Constable Tayler-Rose Mayhew. “Kayani denied any involvement, but the evidence left no doubt.”
“This brutal incident sprang from a petty argument over a woman known to both men. The victim never expected such a nightmare.”
“He now faces life-changing injuries and long-lasting mental scars. This sentence shows that South West Command Unit won’t tolerate street violence. We’ll work round the clock with the CPS to bring offenders to justice.”
