Boston Man Jailed for Fatal One-Punch Killing Over Booze Dispute

Man Dies After Brutal One-Punch Attack in Boston

Gediminas Vaitkus, 43, was murdered in a shocking late-night assault on Red Lion Street, Boston. The attack happened around 6.15pm on July 28th after a bitter dispute over a bottle of booze.

Shop Dispute Sparks Deadly Violence

Vaitkus had tried to buy alcohol at the International Food and Drink shop shortly before the attack. Hikmet Maez, 19, serving behind the counter, refused the sale. Vaitkus then left to go to a nearby shop but was followed by Maez.

Inside the second shop, Maez prodded and pushed Vaitkus before hurling a glass bottle at him. Vaitkus blocked the attack and tried to walk away, but Maez wasn’t finished.

Maez kicked him in the leg, then punched him in the face. Vaitkus fell, hitting his head fatally.

Tragic Death and Swift Arrest

Vaitkus was rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre but died from his injuries on August 3rd. Maez fled the scene in his car but was caught by police two hours later.

Maez, from Spilsby Road, Boston, pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Lincoln Crown Court on September 24. He was sentenced to three years behind bars on December 21st.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Myszczyszyn said: “Maez’s mindless act of violence caused the tragic death of Gediminas Vaitkus. We hope today’s sentence raises awareness about the devastating consequences of violence.”

Family Mourns Devoted Dad

Vaitkus’s 19-year-old daughter, speaking on behalf of the family, shared their heartbreak:

“Not a day goes by that we don’t think about our dear dad. He was a devoted family man who loved us all deeply. My little brother struggles to understand why dad won’t be coming back.”

“This was a careless act that has shattered our lives. Our dad loved life and worked hard to make sure we were happy. We miss him more and more every day.”

The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.

Raising Awareness About One-Punch Attacks

Lincolnshire Police are partnering with OnePunchUK to highlight the dangers of one-punch assaults. The charity was founded by Maxine Thompson-Curl after her son Kristian was killed following a similar attack.

Maxine said: “What worries me is people losing control when drunk. This can happen anywhere – the street, home, or a night out. It’s about knowing your limits and walking away.”

“If I can help just one person avoid this tragedy, it’s worth it.”

Her campaign has reached thousands of schoolchildren and works closely with survivors and victim families to prevent further losses.
