Sergio Debrito Jailed for Brutal Assault After Taxi Ride Turns Horrific

Sergio Debrito, 27, has been handed a hefty nine-year prison sentence after a vicious attack on a young woman in Sheffield. The jury at Sheffield Crown Court found him guilty of Section 18 assault following a chilling incident on the night of May 12, 2019.

Taxi Ride Turns Into Nightmare

DC Shaun Vine, lead investigator, revealed the horrific details: “In the early hours, the victim and her friend tried to hail a taxi on Carver Street after a night out. They ended up sharing a cab with Debrito and another man.”

“When dropped off in Batemoor, the women wanted to head straight home, but the men pushed for more drinks. Inside the victim’s house, Debrito began snapping selfies with the women, ignoring their protests.”

Violent Attack Inside Victim’s Home

Things quickly spiralled. “When told to stop, Debrito turned aggressive, shadowing the victim around the house before locking the front door,” said DC Vine.

Fearing for her safety, the victim tried to grab the key back but was punched by Debrito—knocked unconscious. On regaining consciousness, she defended her friend, only to be hit again and shoved into a door.

As the women dialled 999, Debrito fled, chillingly filming the chaos on his phone.

Serious Injuries and Severe Consequences

The victim suffered serious facial injuries and a pneumothorax, causing long-term breathing issues. DC Vine condemned Debrito’s actions:

“He is a violent man who should not be on our streets. He shamelessly enjoyed the fear he caused in his victim’s own home. Thankfully, the courts have rightly handed him a significant sentence.”

Debrito, from Lupton Walk, Sheffield, was acquitted of a lesser Section 47 assault charge but faces nine years behind bars for his brutal attack.

DC Vine also praised the victim’s bravery: “She remained dignified and worked closely with us to bring Debrito to justice.”
