Drunken Pervert Jailed for Assault on 15-Year-Old Girl on Train

David Shaw, 50, from Beach Road, Bangor, has been locked up for a year after sexually assaulting a teenage girl on a train near Llandudno Junction last summer.

Shocking Attack on Train

On the evening of 14 July 2022, an intoxicated Shaw sat uncomfortably close to the victim, a minor, cornering her in her window seat. Despite the girl repeatedly telling him she was only 15, Shaw wrapped his arms around her neck and committed the sexual assault.

At Llandudno Junction, the victim and her friend hurriedly left the train, putting distance between themselves and Shaw. But his night of rage was far from over.

Violent Outbursts and Criminal Damage

  • Refused further travel, Shaw lost his temper with station staff.
  • He spat at a train driver and tore off his own t-shirt in fury.
  • Just after midnight on 15 July, Shaw smashed the glass doors at Colwyn Bay station with a rock, causing nearly £661 in damage.

Justice Served with Jail and Sex Offender Order

Shaw pleaded guilty at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on 22 November to sexual assault, common assault, and criminal damage. On 12 December, he was sentenced to 52 weeks behind bars, handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for a decade.

BTP Police Constable Jon Liptrot said: “Shaw’s blatant disregard for his victim, who told him she was 15, was staggering. This sentence should send a clear message to anyone thinking they can get away with this.”

“I’d like to commend the victim and her friend for their courage and bravery in this distressing case.”

“If you witness or experience sexual offences on the railway, report it to BTP by texting 61016 or the Railway Guardian App. In an emergency, always dial 999.”
