Armed Robber Caught After Essex Crime Spree
Ky Ellis, 42, a dangerous career criminal with no fixed address, was locked up for ten years at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, 15 October. The Met’s Flying Squad nailed him after a series of terrifying armed robberies across Essex and Stratford.
Spate of Armed Robberies and Thefts
- 6 December 2018: Armed robbery at a bookmakers in Brentwood, Essex
- 16 December 2018: Armed robbery of a petrol station in Brentwood
- 28 January 2019: Armed robbery of a bookmakers in Stratford
- 21 February 2019: Armed robbery of a commercial premises in Canvey Island, Essex
- 27 January 2019: Theft of two bottles of perfume from a shop in Stratford
- 30 January 2019: Cash stolen from a pub in Forest Lane, E7
- 3-18 December 2018: Seven shoplifting offences across Essex
Ellis threatened staff with either a firearm or a knife during the robberies but miraculously, no one was hurt.
Met Detective Praises Joint Police Effort
Detective Constable Stefen Rule, Met Police investigator, said: “Ellis is an extremely dangerous offender with a long history of armed robberies. Thankfully, no one was injured during his spree, but the impact on the victims is immeasurable.
“Our colleagues in Essex Police worked tirelessly alongside us to catch this dangerous man. He will now spend a significant time behind bars.”
