Life Behind Bars for Fugitive Killer Nathan Smith
Nathan Smith Nabbed After Brutal Stabbing
Nathan Smith, 28, from Marlborough Road, N19, has been locked up for life for the savage murder of 30-year-old Takieddine ‘Taki’ Boudhane. The fatal clash unfolded in Finsbury Park on January 3, 2020, after the two argued over driving etiquette.
Taki, an Algerian delivery driver, was viciously stabbed in the chest after a confrontation with Smith, who attacked him wielding a knife. Despite Taki’s desperate attempt to defend himself with his crash helmet and chase his attacker, he collapsed and died at the scene.
Smith’s Cross-Country Escape and Capture
The day after the murder, Smith vanished, making a quick escape to Austria where he hid for more than a year. His name soon topped Europol’s Most Wanted list, triggering a high-stakes hunt led by the Met’s Operation Artemis.
Finally, Portuguese police tracked Smith down and arrested him. He was extradited back to London on June 3, 2021, where he faced murder charges.
Family’s Heartbreak and Crushing Justice
Taki’s mother, Sadie Boudhane, expressed raw grief and anger:
“Our family will always have a missing piece. It’s impossible to describe the damage this murder has inflicted on us. While our son lay dying in the street, this man was already plotting his escape. He refused to own up to what he did.”
“The pain was made even worse by a 17-month-long investigation and trial where my son’s murder was dissected day after day. Smith showed no remorse, only claiming PTSD from running away after the killing. My husband died before justice was served. This man’s denial continued to haunt us.”
Police Praise Family’s Strength and Relief at Verdict
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who led the probe, said:
“It’s heartbreaking to witness the toll this senseless killing has taken on Taki’s loved ones. Their courage to face court each day during such a painful time has been extraordinary. Smith is a dangerous individual, and we’re relieved he’s off our streets for good.”
