Folkestone BB Gun Man Jailed After Armed Police Sting
BB Gun Shooter Sparks Armed Police Response
A 39-year-old man sparked panic in Folkestone when he opened fire with a BB gun at a house and a van. Stuart Regan was arrested on Cheriton Road on the morning of Sunday, 9 February 2020, after police rushed to the scene.
Regan Admits Multiple Offences
At Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday 2 June, Regan pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, criminal damage, and two counts of carrying a knife. The court sentenced him to 20 months behind bars on Wednesday 10 June.
Damages and Dangerous Weapons
Regan targeted the windows of a Manor Road house and a passing vehicle on Cheriton Road, smashing glass with his BB gun. Damage to the house’s windows was estimated at £400, while the van’s damage came to £800. Officers found two knives on Regan – one discarded just before his arrest, and another discovered during a search.
Police Praise Armed Response
Detective Inspector Nigel Douglas said: “Regan’s use of this imitation firearm would have terrified anyone who saw it. He has yet to explain his actions. I want to commend our firearms team who quickly and safely detained an unpredictable, armed individual.”
“There is no excuse for carrying knives or weapons on our streets. Kent Police will prosecute anyone found with them.”
