Speeding thief Shane Seymour jailed after high-speed chase and string of burglaries

Over 20 thefts and burglaries in Kent

Shane Seymour was caught red-handed after a spree of more than 20 thefts and burglaries across east Kent. His crime wave came to a head following his arrest on 24 September 2022.

Stolen Land Rover sparks motorway pursuit

Seymour struck in the early hours, breaking into a property on St Johns Road and snatching the keys to a Land Rover before making off. Police spotted the vehicle later that day in Sturry, Canterbury, and gave chase.

Officers tracked the stolen Land Rover to Brenley Corner roundabout, but Seymour floored it, hitting speeds over 100mph on the M2 London-bound. He dangerously overtook cars using the hard shoulder in a terrifying high-speed escape attempt.

Crash, escape and capture

The chase ended at Junction 3 where Seymour crashed into another vehicle at a roundabout. Two people in that vehicle suffered injuries and needed hospital treatment.

Despite fleeing on foot, Seymour was found and arrested just 10 minutes later in Robin Hood Lane, Walderslade.

Long list of offences and heavy jail sentence

Police investigations revealed Seymour’s involvement in three burglaries, four vehicle thefts, and 26 other thefts between August and September 2022. His haul included stealing from vehicles in Herne Bay and Whitstable plus fuel thefts from garages in Faversham, Chestfield, and along Thanet Way.

The 29-year-old from Bruce Castle Road, North London, was charged with multiple offences including vehicle theft, dangerous driving causing serious injury, driving while disqualified, no insurance, and conspiracy to burgle and steal.

On 24 March 2023, Seymour pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five and a half years behind bars.

Detective Sergeant Jay Robinson said: “Seymour’s crimes showed he had no regard for the impact his offending had on his victims. Kent residents can be reassured now that he is safely behind bars.
