Mother and Son Duo Jailed Over Conisbrough Shooting Spree
Joe Edward Roberts, 20, and his mum Nicola Butler, 44, have been locked up after a major crackdown on organised crime in Doncaster. The pair were found guilty following a tense two-week trial over a string of shootings in Conisbrough back in November 2020.
Shootings Rock Conisbrough Neighbourhood
Between Saturday 7 and Monday 9 November 2020, police responded to reports of gunfire in three Conisbrough areas: Park Road, Daylands Avenue, and March Vale Rise. A 19-year-old man was injured but his wounds were not life-threatening. Two other men, aged 47 and 22, were also hurt during the March Vale Rise incident.
Lengthy Prison Terms for Violence and Arson
- Roberts: Jailed for 30 years after being convicted of three counts of attempted murder, three counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, arson with intent to endanger life, and violent disorder.
- Butler: Sentenced to 25 years after being found guilty of two counts of attempted murder and two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Police Warn Against Organised Crime
“This was a very complex investigation involving an Organised Crime Group. Both Roberts and Butler posed a great danger to the public, and I’m pleased that they’re now behind bars where they belong,” said Acting Detective Sergeant Chris Beaumont.
“This conviction sends a strong message: get involved in organised crime and we will find you. There is no place for violence and organised criminality in our communities.”
