Chaos in Dorset Park: Officer Attacked During Violent Incident
On 22 May 2022, Dorset Police were flooded with 999 calls reporting a savage fight between two men at Winton Recreation Ground – with fears of a stabbing. But it quickly emerged only one was the aggressor, while the other tried to calm the situation.
Park Violence Turns Bizarre and Brutal
The offender rampaged through the park, provoking strangers and creating chaos. Shockingly, he dropped his trousers, masturbated in public, and shouted abuse at passersby.
PC Chloe Chapman arrived solo, spotting the fight beside the road. The violent man immediately targeted her, launching himself onto the police car’s bonnet before scrambling inside through the passenger door.
Attack on Officer Inside Police Car
Inside the vehicle, the man became vicious. He pulled PC Chapman’s hair, punched, grabbed her protective gear, and bizarrely began licking and kissing her face. Trapped with the attacker who reportedly had a knife, she was also sexually assaulted but kept her cool enough to press her emergency button.
Unfortunately, the distress signal failed after the offender inadvertently switched the radio channel amid the chaos.
Heroic Rescue and Arrest
A brave member of the public stepped in, helping drag the attacker out of the car. PC Chapman then drew her Taser as he tried to bolt. Despite the ordeal, she chased him down. When he pretended to surrender, she gave clear commands to detain him.
But the attacker jumped up and launched another assault. Forced into a close-quarters struggle, PC Chapman managed to zap him with her Taser. The man got up again, ignored orders to stay down, and charged at another bystander – who tackled him to the floor.
With another civilian’s help, PC Chapman finally subdued and arrested the violent felon before backup arrived.
Praise for Bravery from Police Chiefs
Federation Chair James Dimmack said: “PC Chapman suffered a disgusting and highly personal attack. Despite this violation she remained focused on the job at hand and principally keeping people safe with no thought for her own safety.”
“Most wouldn’t have performed as she did in this terrifying situation. I am incredibly proud of her and how she represents Dorset Police.”
Chief Constable Amanda Pearson added: “I am incredibly proud of PC Chloe Chapman and all her talented and dedicated colleagues. Chloe has already won a Chief Constable’s commendation and this national award nomination highlights the daily bravery of our officers.”
“Despite her ordeal, Chloe stayed calm and professional to apprehend a violent individual. I wish her the best of luck in the awards.”
