Shoplifter Busted After Raiding Tesco Twice
Carlene Ripley made a clean getaway twice from Tesco on Bridge Road, Sheerness, swiping bottles of spirits and a vacuum cleaner. On April 2nd and 4th, 2022, she slipped out via a fire escape or an alarmed exit with her loot.
Caught on CCTV and Nabbed
Police were quick on her trail after CCTV footage from the Swale Victim Based Crime Team spotted Ripley in action. The 38-year-old was arrested on May 21 and hit with two theft charges.
Sentenced for Breaking Suspended Sentences
Ripley pleaded guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court on May 23. She’d already flouted two suspended shoplifting sentences and ended up with a 10-month prison term that same day.
“Prolific criminals like Ripley relentlessly target retailers with the sole intention of stealing high-value items to either consume or sell,” said Inspector Paul Stoner. “Shoplifting is never a victimless crime, and it has a significant impact on businesses, which is why we use plain clothes officers as part of our ongoing efforts to prevent and catch thieves who target our communities.”
