Repeat Shoplifter Locked Up for Two Years After Ignoring Ban
Kirsten Hocking, 30, who has no fixed address, has finally been nailed after flouting a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) aimed at curbing her shoplifting spree.
Criminal Behaviour Order Ignored
Back in July 2020, Hocking was slapped with a CBO banning her from several retail shops and surrounding streets in Worthing town centre. But she ignored the rules and kept nicking items.
Jailed Twice for Persistent Theft
- January 2021: Hocking got 26 weeks behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple theft charges, breaking her CBO.
- March-April 2024: She struck again, stealing from Wilko, Tesco, and Poundland – pinching everything from washing powder and make-up to aftershave and food.
Her constant offending culminated in her arrest on five counts of shoplifting and six counts of violating the CBO.
Two Years Locked Up for Worthing Shoplifting Scourge
On 20 May, Lewes Crown Court sentenced Hocking to 24 months in prison.
“Hocking’s offending has had a huge impact on the businesses of Worthing town centre,” said PC Rob Luff, the lead investigator.
“This persistent behaviour should not be tolerated by the community. CBOs are a vital tool in tackling repeat offenders and antisocial behaviour. The lengthy sentence should finally give some reassurance and respite to local businesses and residents.”
