Shoplifter Nrender Biriah Banned from 43 Stores After Running Amok in Dartford

Serial thief caught red-handed stealing laundry tablets

Nrender Biriah, a man with no fixed address, has been on a shoplifting spree across Dartford since February 2020. The latest stunt saw him swipe £44 worth of laundry tablets from a local supermarket on the evening of Monday, 14 August.

Arrest, court battle and swift jail sentence

Thanks to proactive police patrols, Biriah was nabbed on 18 August and charged with theft. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court the very next day and pleaded guilty. Due to his long history of offending, a Criminal Behaviour Order was sought by Kent Police’s Strategic Prevention Command.

On 14 September, the court slapped him with a four-week jail sentence and approved the Criminal Behaviour Order.

Stiff restrictions aim to keep Biriah away from shops

  • Biriah is banned for two years from entering any of the 43 stores involved in the Gravesham Safe and Free Environment (GSAFE) scheme—a partnership between businesses, Gravesham Borough Council, and Kent Police.
  • He is also forbidden from entering Co-Operative Retail Stores anywhere in Kent without explicit permission.

Breaking these conditions will land Biriah back in hot water, risking further jail time.

Kent Police warn public to stay vigilant

“Biriah is a prolific offender who, despite numerous interventions from us, has shown no willingness to cease his offending,” said investigating officer PC Tony Quilter.

“The successful implementation of the order is testament to the hard work of our officers, who have worked tirelessly to see Biriah face consequences for his actions.”

“If anyone witnesses Biriah breaching this order, I encourage them to report it to Kent Police.”
