Torquay Man Jailed for Brutal Assault on Partner

Robert “Bobby” Beer, a well-known local from Torquay, was sentenced to two years and one month at Exeter Crown Court for assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The violent attack left the victim seriously injured and terrified.

Violent Attack in Early Morning

Beer, a traffic management worker with a notorious past of 21 convictions for 34 offences, spent the night drinking at home before launching the brutal assault. At 8am, he dragged his partner out of bed by her hair, repeatedly smashing her head against walls and the floor as she struggled to escape.

He pulled her around the house by her hair, slammed her head against a door, and dragged her unconscious into the living room. The victim suffered severe whiplash and multiple injuries during the savage attack.

Child Intervenes, Faces Brutal Assault

The violence didn’t stop there. The victim’s 12-year-old son, alarmed by the noise, tried to call the police. Beer turned his fury on the boy, snatching his phone and threatening him. When the boy tried to flee, Beer blocked his escape and struck him hard, sending the child flying across the room.

Despite the terror, the brave youngster managed to escape outside and alert neighbours, who rushed in to stop Beer from causing further harm.

Criminal Record as Dark as the Crime

During police interviews, Beer showed no remorse, changing his story multiple times before eventually pleading guilty. His extensive criminal record includes:

  • Manslaughter
  • Multiple domestic assaults
  • Threats of violence mostly against women
  • Possession of heroin with intent to supply
  • Car and driving offences
  • Sending threatening obscene messages to ex-girlfriends
  • Assault on a police officer
  • Various ABH and battery charges

Along with his jail sentence, Beer has been slapped with a lifetime restraining order and banned from entering Torquay upon his release.
