Predator Nicholas Wells Jailed for Brutal Sexual Assault
Nicholas John Wells, 29, from Salisbury, has been locked up for six years after a ruthless police probe and cutting-edge DNA tech cracked the case wide open.
Six Years Behind Bars and Tough Restrictions
Wells appeared at Salisbury Crown Court and pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman in her 30s in Hudson’s Field just after midnight on 19 May 2019. Judge Barnett slapped him with six years inside plus a four-year extended license on release.
He’s also slapped with a strict Sexual Harm Prevention Order banning him from being alone with any female not related to him.
DNA Breakthrough Nails Wells
After the attack, police released an e-fit and offered a £5,000 Crimestoppers reward for info. A fresh appeal rolled out a year later in May 2020.
But it was a breakthrough in DNA evidence that sealed Wells’ fate. Technological advances matched his DNA to samples from the victim, identifying him as the attacker.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery and Team Effort
“Wells is a dangerous and predatory sexual offender who carried out this dreadful attack,” said Detective Inspector Dean Garvin. “The sentence reflects the seriousness of this crime.”
“Judge Barnett considers Wells a dangerous man. If he doesn’t change, our partners and police are ready to protect the public, even after his release.”
“I pay tribute to the courage of the victim, whose bravery brought justice today. This was a long and complex investigation, but thanks to the determination and skill of our officers, especially DC Milburn, we got this conviction.”
