Officer Charged Amid Shocking Allegations
PC Andrej Sagaidak, a probationary cop working with the local policing team in south-east London, was charged on Friday, 5 January. The charges are severe: two counts of rape, one count of non-fatal strangulation, and one count of causing actual bodily harm.
Court Appearance and Next Steps
Sagaidak appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 6 January. He was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 2 February.
Police Respond to Serious Claims
Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, overseeing Bexley, Greenwich, and Lewisham policing, said: “This is a deeply concerning allegation and I know it will cause significant concern. Ongoing Investigation Into New Year Incident
The probe began after a man reported being raped by another man at a residential property in Islington on Monday, 1 January. PC Sagaidak was off-duty when the alleged attack happened.
Police continue to provide support to the victim while the investigation unfolds. A mandatory referral has also been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
