Kent Man Jailed for Historic Sexual Assaults on Children
Kent Police launched an investigation after a woman reported a sexual assault in Dover in September 2019. This complaint, made in October, led detectives to uncover disturbing non-recent offences against two children in Ashford.
Nicholas Lumsden Arrested and Charged
Officers identified Nicholas Lumsden, 40, from Selcroft Avenue, Birmingham, as the suspect. He was arrested and charged with multiple sexual offences. Despite denying all charges, Lumsden was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court of 14 counts, including indecent assault, sexual assault of a child, and sexual activity with a child.
Lengthy Jail Sentence and Sexual Harm Prevention Order
On 17 April 2024, Lumsden was sentenced to 14 years behind bars. He must serve an additional five years on licence and is subject to a 25-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This ensures he remains closely monitored after release.
Police Praise Victims for Courage
Detective Constable Antony White said: “Lumsden subjected his victims to serious sexual offences and has refused to admit his crimes, adding to their ordeals. I would like to praise the bravery of the victims for coming forward and supporting our investigation and the resulting prosecution.”
“I hope the fact that Lumsden is now serving a lengthy prison sentence gives them some sense that justice has been done. I urge anyone who has been the victim of sexual offences, whether recent or not, to contact police so that we can investigate.”
