Man Jailed for Fatal Hospital Brawl
Paul Franks, 48, has been handed an eight-year prison sentence at Sheffield Crown Court after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
Hospital Assault Turns Deadly
The shocking attack happened on a hospital ward on the evening of Saturday, February 12. Franks assaulted fellow patient Paul Reed, 48, sparking urgent police intervention after staff called officers around 8.54 p.m.
Tragically, Reed died early the next morning from a subdural haemorrhage – a severe brain bleed confirmed by a post-mortem on February 14.
Investigator Speaks Out
“This was an awful and entirely unnecessary incident that resulted in a man tragically losing his life,” said Detective Inspector Andy Knowles, leading the inquiry. “My heartfelt condolences go out to Mr Reed’s family. I hope they can now begin to move forward, knowing that the man responsible is behind bars.”
Sentence Details
Franks received six years for manslaughter. An additional two years were added concurrently after his community order was revoked for unrelated sex offences, making a total of eight years behind bars.
