Jordan Campbell Jailed for Rape and Strangulation in Southampton

Jordan Thomas Campbell, 30, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Thursday 4 May after being found guilty of rape and intentional strangulation. The shocking case was heard at Southampton Crown Court, with Campbell also handed additional sentences for harassment and controlling behaviour.

From Helper to Horror

The victim, who knew Campbell, had approached him in Southampton on the evening of 16 September after spotting him injured. Concerned for his welfare, she went with him to his home. But as she tried to leave, Campbell turned vicious.

He became verbally aggressive, then launched an assault. Campbell strangled the woman before raping her inside his property. She suffered bruising to her face, neck, and chest as a result.

Relentless Harassment After the Attack

Following the assault, Campbell bombarded the victim with messages, videos, voice notes, and calls over five days—from 17 to 22 September 2022.

He was later arrested from his Westridge Road address and charged with rape, strangulation, harassment, and coercive control.

Impact on the Victim: A Life Shattered

“The incident made me feel like I lost control of who I am. Any dignity I had was gone,” the victim said in a statement. “I don’t feel normal, I don’t feel like myself. It affects how I feel every day and I can’t get on with my life.”

Campbell faces nine years behind bars for rape, followed by six years on extended licence. He also received two years for strangulation and one year for harassment, served concurrently. A lifetime restraining order bans him from contacting the victim, and he must now register as a sex offender indefinitely.

Police Vow Justice and Support

Detective Constable Joanne Boyd said:

“Rape and serious sexual offences are some of the most devastating crimes a person can survive. We are fully committed to targeting perpetrators and delivering justice.”

“Campbell used sex to assert dominance and control, but now he faces the consequences of his actions — a lengthy prison sentence. His choices that night will impact his future dramatically.”

“This sentencing should help the victim begin the healing process, knowing Campbell can no longer harm her. We’ve taken a dangerous man off the streets who will be monitored after release to protect society.”

“If you’re a victim of domestic abuse, don’t suffer in silence. Contact the police or a support service. Your call will be taken seriously. There are also independent organisations ready to help.”
