Man Jailed for Rape and Strangulation After Woman Tried to Help Him
Jordan Thomas Campbell, 30, was sentenced on Thursday 4 May after being found guilty of rape and intentional strangulation at Southampton Crown Court in February. The nightmare unfolded after a woman came to his aid when she spotted him injured in Southampton on the night of 16 September 2022.
Good Samaritan Turned Victim
The victim, who knew Campbell, took him to his home out of concern. But as she tried to leave, Campbell turned aggressive. He verbally abused her, then attacked—strangling and raping her inside the property. The woman suffered bruises on her face, neck, and chest from the horrific assault.
Harassment Continues After Attack
Campbell’s abuse didn’t stop there. Over five days following the attack, from 17 to 22 September, he bombarded the woman with messages, videos, voice notes, and phone calls in a campaign of harassment.
Justice Served, Victim Speaks Out
Campbell, from Westridge Road, Southampton, was charged with rape, intentional strangulation, controlling and coercive behaviour, and harassment.
“The incident made me feel like I lost control of who I am. Any dignity I had was gone,” the victim said in a statement. “I no longer feel normal, I don’t feel like myself. It impacts my day-to-day life. I cannot go on with my life.”
