Predatory Pervert Jailed for 12 Years in Shocking Child Abuse Case
Raymond Haffenden, 69, from Springfield Road, St Leonards, was slammed with a 12-year prison sentence at Hove Crown Court on Wednesday (October 19). He was found guilty of four chilling counts of sexual assault against a young girl.
Sexual Assaults in 2017 Spark Police Hunt
Haffenden preyed on a girl under 13 multiple times during 2017. The moment the horrific allegations surfaced, police launched a full investigation. Several computer devices were seized as part of the inquiry.
Multiple Charges Unveiled – Justice Served
- Four counts of sexual assault by touching a girl under 13
- Three counts of sexual assault by penetration on a girl under 13
- Two counts of creating indecent images of a child
On May 5, 2022, Haffenden was convicted of two counts of sexual assault by touching and two counts by penetration. On October 19, he was handed consecutive sentences of four years for touching assaults and 11 and 12 years for penetration charges, all to run concurrently.
Harsh Sentencing and Lifetime Protection Order
The pervert must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence behind bars. He has also been slapped with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, locking down his access to children and electronic gadgets.
“Raymond Haffenden was a predatory abuser who took advantage of the trust of his young victim,” said Detective Constable Becca Dixon.
“I would like to thank her for the incredible bravery she has shown in supporting this investigation and helping to take a dangerous individual off the streets.”
