Stalker monster locked up after terrifying home invasion and relentless harassment
Crime spree ends with prison sentence
Nicholas Bergin, 46, went on a terrifying spree, breaking into his ex’s home and stalking her in his car. The drama unfolded in Whitstable after the woman bravely reported him to Kent Police.
On June 29, 2022, Bergin pleaded guilty to stalking and witness intimidation. The former Eversleigh Rise resident was slammed with a prison sentence of two years and eight months the very next day.
Abusive relationship turns violent
Bergin’s violence wasn’t a one-off. He had been in an abusive relationship with the victim, terrorising and trying to control her. When they split, he smashed down her door, broke into her house, and assaulted her.
One incident in December 2021 finally alerted Kent Police, leading to Bergin’s arrest and bail with strict no-contact conditions.
Ignoring bail, Bergin stalks victim again
But Bergin ignored bail conditions. He stalked his ex to a medical appointment, leaving her fearing for her safety.
He was swiftly arrested again and charged.
“Bergin gave no thought to the impact his offending would have on the victim,” said Detective Constable Jess Meadway of Canterbury’s Vulnerability Investigation Team.
“I hope his prison sentence helps her move on. I applaud her bravery in coming forward and urge anyone facing abuse or harassment to contact the police immediately. Your safety is our priority.”
