Brutal Stalker Jailed for 21 Years After Knife Attack in Telford
Stephen Carless Sentenced for Attempted Murder
Stephen Carless, 61, from Ketley Park Road, Telford, was handed a hefty 21-year jail term today at Stafford Crown Court. The sentence comes after he was found guilty of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm (GBH), stalking, and harassment. A lifelong restraining order was also imposed to protect the victim and a key witness.
Chilling Attack Caught on Hadley Road
The horrific assault happened in the early hours of 14 October 2019. Carless stalked his victim as she left her home in Oakengates, following her down Hadley Road before launching the vicious attack. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds, leaving her with serious injuries.
Heroic Dog-Walker Saves the Day
A local man, Adam Myatt, was walking his dog nearby when he spotted the attack. He intervened to help the woman but was threatened by Carless. Staying out of sight, Adam quickly called the police.
After Carless fled, Adam rushed to the woman’s aid and called for an ambulance. Shockingly, Carless returned with the knife to threaten witnesses before vanishing again. He was then arrested later that day.
Police Praise Witness’s Courage
Detective Constable Emily Atkinson said: “We are extremely pleased with today’s sentence for this violent attack. It’s a relief to see such an aggressive man off the streets for so long.”
“Thanks to Adam’s bravery, the victim got urgent medical help and Carless was caught. If it weren’t for Adam’s quick thinking and selfless actions, the victim might not have survived.”
“Adam has rightly been honoured with a High Sheriffs’ Award for his extraordinary courage. He went far beyond what any reasonable person would in this situation — this award is well deserved.”
