Man Jailed for Brutal Attempted Murder at Tonbridge Nail Bar
Thuan Dinh has been locked up for 28 years after a savage attack on his ex-partner at her workplace in Tonbridge High Street. The 53-year-old ambushed the woman before the nail bar opened, stabbing her in the neck and trying to strangle her with a rope.
Premeditated Attack Shocks Town
On the morning of March 11, 2020, Dinh sneaked into the shop and hid in a dark corner, waiting for his victim to arrive. When she let herself in with a key around 9am, he confronted her, holding a long rope and declaring his plan to kill her.
Dinh then launched the horrifying assault – gouging at her eyes with his fingers, stabbing her with a kitchen knife, and squeezing the rope around her neck in a desperate bid to murder her.
Heroic Public Rescues Woman from Attack
A staff member entering the nail bar spotted the struggle and quickly raised the alarm. Members of the public rushed in to help, yanking Dinh off the victim and holding him until police arrived.
The woman was rushed to hospital with serious neck wounds and severe head and eye injuries. Meanwhile, Dinh received treatment for minor injuries before being arrested.
Justice Served After Court Battle
Following an investigation by Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, Dinh was charged with attempted murder and possessing an offensive weapon. Despite pleading not guilty, he was convicted and also found guilty of breaching a restraining order.
Sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court, Dinh received 28 years behind bars plus an extra four years on licence. Detective Chief Inspector Garry Cook described the crime as “truly horrific” and premeditated, warning that Dinh had also planned to set fire to the shop after the attack.
“I hope today’s sentence brings some comfort to the victim,” said DCI Cook. “Thanks to the brave members of the public who intervened, possibly saving her life.”
