Monster’s seven deadly days: Anthony Russell admits triple murder spree
Anthony Russell, 39, has shockingly confessed to the murders of Julie Williams, her son David Williams, and Nicole McGregor. The 31-year-old McGregor’s body was discovered in the woods near Leamington Spa.
Brutal attacks over one week in October 2020
Police described Russell as an “evil” and highly dangerous individual responsible for a violent rampage lasting just seven days. The killings shocked the West Midlands community.
Tragic motives revealed in court
West Midlands Police say Russell killed David Williams because he wrongly believed David was involved with his girlfriend. When Russell confronted Julie Williams about her son’s disappearance, detectives believe he confessed to David’s murder before silencing her to stop the police getting answers.
Detective Superintendent Shaun Edwards said: “He killed Julie to stop her from speaking to police.”
There was no known connection between Russell and Nicole McGregor. The court heard Russell had assaulted Ms McGregor hours after she showed him a baby scan photo.
Guilty verdicts lead to sentencing
Following a retrial, Russell was unanimously found guilty of rape. He admitted the murders of Julie Williams, 58, and David Williams, 32, which occurred on 25 and 21 October 2020. He also confessed to killing Nicole McGregor on 26 October; her body was found three days later.
Sentencing is due this Friday at Warwick Crown Court.
