Burglar’s Sick Lies Snare £200 from Trowbridge Victim
Andrew Alexander, 45, from Park Road, Trowbridge, has been locked up after a week-long crime spree that shocked the local community.
Fake Emergencies and Heartbreaking Lies
Over just seven days last November, Alexander spun a web of deceit. On one occasion, he claimed to be a victim of domestic violence, coercing a resident into handing over cash. In another, he pretended his wife was in labour, begging for money to pay a taxi fare to the hospital.
On November 8, Alexander knocked on a woman’s door, asking for £40. After she gave him the cash, he asked for a glass of water, slipped into the kitchen, and swiped her purse containing around £200 before vanishing.
In a separate incident, he let himself into another home, telling a sob story about domestic abuse. The victim, feeling pressured, transferred £30 to him just to make him leave.
Police Condemn Alexander’s Callous Crimes
Sgt Rich Marshall slammed Alexander’s “disgraceful” actions: “He preyed on kind-hearted neighbours, spinning fake tales of illness and emergencies to get money. People should feel safe in their own homes, but Alexander made them scared.”
“We worked hard to piece together these offences and are pleased he’s now behind bars for his callous deception.”
Alexander pleaded guilty to multiple counts of burglary and fraud and was sentenced last week, bringing some relief to his terrified victims.
