Obsessed Luke Hancock jailed after violent attack and threatening texts

Attack Sparks Police Action

Luke Hancock, 33, launched a terrifying attack on a woman just days after meeting her on 3 December 2022. Not stopping there, he bombarded her with threatening messages throughout December, even after she made it clear she wanted no further contact. His threats targeted both her and her children, leaving her deeply scared.

Car Vandalism and Brutal Assault

On the same day as the first attack, Hancock smashed the woman’s car windscreen. His violent streak continued when, on New Year’s Eve, police were called to a fight in Nottingham’s Mapperley Park. Hancock had attacked a man with a baseball bat, striking his head, body, and legs, causing pain and bruising. The weapon came from 35-year-old Ricky Wilding, who handed Hancock the bat.

Court Verdict: Jail Time and Orders

  • Hancock, from Waldrom Road, Gedling, pleaded guilty to several charges including assault causing actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, assault by beating, malicious communications, and criminal damage.
  • He was sentenced to two years in prison and slapped with a five-year restraining order.
  • Wilding, from Wigman Road, Bilborough, received an eight-month suspended sentence, 120 hours unpaid work, and 20 days of rehabilitation.

Police Praise Victims’ Courage

Detective Constable Jodie Turton said: “These were nasty and serious offences which must have been extremely frightening ordeals for the victims. Hancock became obsessed with the woman, and his repeated threatening behaviour made her fear for herself and her children’s safety. He then committed a brutal assault with a baseball bat.”

She added: “I’m pleased this sentence has taken a dangerous individual off the streets. I hope it brings some comfort to his victims that Hancock is now behind bars for his violent behaviour.”
