Leila Borrington jailed for 15 years over brutal assault that killed toddler Harvey
Toddler’s death shock
Three-year-old Harvey Borrington died from severe head injuries suffered at the hands of 23-year-old Leila Borrington at her Jacksdale home on August 7, 2021.
Borrington told police Harvey had fallen from a chair and hit his head. But experts smashed that claim, revealing the injuries came from repeated, violent blows — not a simple accident.
Horrific abuse uncovered
At Nottingham Crown Court, jurors heard chilling details of abuse Harvey suffered in the weeks leading up to his death.
A harrowing video showed Harvey injured and lying on the floor shortly after collapsing, filmed by Borrington herself.
Harvey passed away two days later in hospital.
Convicted but denied murder
Though cleared of murder, Borrington was found guilty of manslaughter. She was also convicted of causing grievous bodily harm for breaking Harvey’s arm, plus one more assault charge.
Justice served
Today at Nottingham Crown Court, Borrington was sentenced to 15 years behind bars.
Detective Inspector Simon Harrison said: “This was a disturbing and upsetting case to work on and I am pleased that Borrington has now been sentenced.
“The death of any child is a tragedy, but there is something especially awful about cases of this nature.
“As a police officer I am pleased that justice has now been done, but I am aware that no custodial sentence can adequately reflect the pain and anguish felt by Harvey’s family.
“My thoughts, and the thoughts of my colleagues, remain with them today.”
