Homeless Trickster Turned Thief Jailed for Robbing Trusting Pubgoer
Lauren Stevens, 28, conned her way into a man’s home after befriending him outside a Bulwell pub by pretending to be homeless. Once inside, she ransacked the property and stole cash, cigarettes, tobacco, and a bank card.
Night of Deception Ends in Violence
The victim, in his 50s, was drinking at a pub on 8 August 2022 when he met Stevens. They watched TV together at his home before she left, claiming she was going to buy drugs. Later that night, Stevens returned, attacked him with a blow to the head, and demanded to know where his ‘winnings’ were.
She stuffed bags full of stolen goods and pressured him for his bank card PIN. Despite threats, the victim refused. Stevens fled the scene, and the robbery was reported the following morning.
Four Years Behind Bars for Cold-Blooded Robbery
Stevens was sentenced to four years in prison at nottingham/" title="Nottingham" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Nottingham Crown Court on 31 March after pleading guilty to robbery. Detective Sergeant Lee Cattell condemned the attack as “a cruel robbery of a vulnerable man.”
“Stevens tricked her way into the victim’s home by befriending him purely so she could steal from him,” said Sgt Cattell. “Thankfully officers were able to catch up with her quickly and I hope this reassures the community that we take this sort of incident extremely seriously.”
The police continue to stress the serious impact violent and threatening behaviour has on victims and applaud the victim’s bravery in reporting the crime.
