Shocking Injuries Reveal Savage Assault
The jury heard how Phillips suffered multiple facial fractures from the stamping, plus broken ribs, a fractured sternum, and damaged thoracic vertebrae. Blood-stained stereo equipment was also found at the scene, suggesting it had been used as a weapon during the attack.
‘No Intent to Kill’ Claim Falls Flat
CPS prosecutor Emma Myles revealed: “Tom Carney admitted responsibility for the death of David Phillips but denied any intention to kill or cause serious harm.”
“However, the evidence of this shockingly violent attack suggested otherwise. We thank the brave witnesses who stepped forward to ensure justice for Mr Phillips.”
Life Sentence for Savage Killer
Carney was handed a life sentence and ordered to serve at least fifteen years and ten days behind bars.
