Life Support Set to Be Switched Off
The boy’s life support was originally scheduled to be turned off at 2pm this Monday. A High Court judge ruled this was in the child’s best interests after the family’s appeals ran dry.
UN Pleads for Reprieve — UK Government Urges Courts to Act
In a last-ditch bid, a UN committee urged the UK government on Friday to “refrain from withdrawing life-sustaining medical treatment” including ventilation and nutrition, while the case was still under review.
On Sunday, Health Secretary Steve Barclay’s legal team sent an urgent letter demanding the courts consider the UN’s plea ASAP.
Court of Appeal Says No Delay
Despite the intervention, the Court of Appeal rejected the request to postpone ending life support for the 12-year-old. The deadline remains fixed at 12pm tomorrow.
