Speed Demon’s Crazy Chase Ends with Taser and Jail

Alexander Morgan led Nottingham police on a wild high-speed pursuit before trying to ditch the evidence – and himself. After ditching the stolen car, he tried to scale a fence, only to be wrestled to the ground by officers. A violent struggle followed, ending with Morgan getting tasered and found with a hefty kitchen knife hidden in his jeans.

High-Speed Danger Through Nottingham Streets

The 37-year-old Morgan first triggered police attention on 16 October 2020, spotted behind the wheel of a vehicle linked to a theft the day before. When police caught sight of him on Woodborough Road, Morgan floored it, careering through red lights, racing on the wrong side of busy city centre roads and hitting speeds of up to 70mph in residential areas.

Attempted Escape Foiled: Knife Found

Morgan abandoned the car at Oxbow Close in The Meadows. His desperate bid to escape on foot was short-lived when officers caught up. He then fiercely resisted arrest, grappling with an armed officer until a taser put him down. A sharp kitchen knife tucked in his jeans soon came to light.

Justice Served: 17 Months Behind Bars

At Nottingham Crown Court on 29 April, Morgan pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and possession of a bladed article. The Shelford Rise man from Sneinton was locked up for 17 months.

PC Louise Ramsay of Nottinghamshire Police said: “This was an appalling display of driving that could very well have ended up in death or serious injury. Morgan drove through a busy city centre at high speed and showed absolutely no consideration for the safety of other people. It is a testament to the skill and professionalism of the officers involved that this incident was brought to a safe conclusion and Morgan was safely detained. I am pleased he has now been punished and will be spending a considerable spell behind bars.”
