Man Caught on Camera Arming Himself with Petrol Can Before Shocking Arson Blast
Tyrone Ludlow, 35, was filmed on a doorbell camera approaching his ex-partner’s home in Gravesend carrying a petrol can. Moments later, an explosion tore through the garden, destroying an outbuilding in flames.
Arson and Abuse: Ludlow’s Violent Rampage
Ludlow, from Greenhithe, pleaded guilty to arson at Woolwich Crown Court on 23 September 2022. He also admitted assault, criminal damage, and breaching a non-molestation order linked to the same victim.
The trouble began back on 19 January 2022 during a heated argument at the woman’s home. Ludlow hurled a mobile phone that narrowly missed her head and damaged a wall. He smashed her TV, ripped a kitchen cupboard door off, and hurled abuse in her face.
The victim secured a non-molestation order, but Ludlow ignored it, sending harassing texts twice in April.
Explosion Shakes Family Home with Children Inside
On the evening of 16 April, the victim was home with her three children when a deafening explosion shook the building. Flames soon engulfed the garden shed, forcing firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service to race to the scene.
Ludlow was arrested that night and charged for the crime.
Detective’s Warning: Dangerous Offender Locked Up
“Tyrone Ludlow is a dangerous individual who showed no regard for the safety of his victim, her children, or nearby neighbours when he caused the explosion,” said Detective Constable Brian Mitchell.
“Offenders like him, who lack self-control and endanger others, face prison and the loss of their freedom. I hope the victim can find some comfort knowing Ludlow is behind bars and can no longer harm her or any other women.”
