PC Mohammed Sardar caught snooping on police files without cause

Misconduct uncovered after three-year illegal computer access

PC Mohammed Sardar, part of the East Basic Command Unit, has been found guilty of discreditable conduct. An investigation led by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) revealed he illegally accessed police computers from 2018 to 2021. He used the information for no policing purpose, breaching professional standards.

Guilty plea at Westminster Magistrates’ Court

Sardar pleaded guilty to offences under the Computer Misuse Act at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 22 September. He is due for sentencing on 8 January 2024.

Force vows zero tolerance on misconduct

Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell slammed Sardar’s behaviour as “wholly unacceptable.” He said:

“We set the highest standards for our officers and Sardar’s actions were wholly unacceptable. We are committed to ensuring that our officers and staff comply with the Information Code of Conduct as this outcome demonstrates.”

Former officer barred from police service

Sardar will be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing. Anyone on this list is banned from working for police forces, Police and Crime Commissioners, the IOPC, HM Inspectorate of Constabulary, and Fire and Rescue Services.
