PC Mohammed Rahman Sentenced for Misusing Police Databases
Ex-Met Officer Faces Jail and Community Service
PC Mohammed Rahman, 39, from the North East Command Unit, was handed a 12-month prison sentence — suspended for two years — plus 100 hours of community service and 20 days of rehabilitation at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, 1 December.
Misuse of Police Systems Uncovered
Rahman abused police intelligence and crime databases between October 2018 and February 2021. He unlawfully searched for information on family members, known addresses, and car registration numbers.
Worse still, he leaked this data to people outside the Met.
Investigation and Aftermath
- Rahman was arrested in February 2021 and charged in August 2023.
- The probe was led by the Directorate of Professional Standards Anti-Corruption and Abuse Command, supervised by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
- Rahman pleaded guilty to seven misconduct in public office charges on 23 October.
- He was suspended from duty but has now resigned.
Chief Superintendent Issues Warning
“PC Rahman would have been well aware, as all officers are, that police systems must only be used for a legitimate purpose and certainly not to carry out personal checks for his own use,” said Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, head of North East policing. “His actions did not meet the high standards we expect and we will now move to a misconduct hearing as soon as possible.”
