Cop Jailed After Pushing Fare Dodger on Bus
A West Midlands Police officer has been locked up for 12 weeks after a guilty verdict for assault. PC Neville Bridgewood, 39, was convicted following a two-day trial at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 1 November.
Bus Brawl Ends in Court
The drama unfolded outside Bilston bus station on 26 September last year when PC Bridgewood was among officers answering a panic alarm on a bus. The row kicked off after a man refused to pay his fare. During the scuffle, Bridgewood pushed the man, causing him to fall and suffer a cut to his leg. Luckily, the injury didn’t need hospital treatment.
From Frontline to Suspension
Since the charges landed, Bridgewood has been moved off front-line duties. Now suspended, the neighbourhood officer faces a misconduct hearing set for the near future.
Force Acts Tough on Misconduct
The force expects the highest standards of conduct from our officers and will bring to justice those who fall below that standard including bringing criminal charges.
West Midlands Police have made it clear they won’t hesitate to act against one of their own when lines are crossed—even if that means prosecuting serving officers.
