Violent Hailstorm Causes Widespread Damage in Almería, Spain

Almería Wrecked by Brutal Hailstorm

The Spanish city of Almería was battered last night by a savage hailstorm, leaving cars smashed and streets flooded. Enormous hailstones the size of golf balls pummelled the city, shattering car windows and denting metalwork everywhere.

Heavy rain poured down alongside the hail, triggering flash floods that turned roads into rivers. The city was hit with a whopping 100mm of rain in just 12 hours, including a peak of 30mm in one hour.

Shocking Damage Caught on Camera

Social media is flooded with photos and videos showing the destruction. One clip displays a car’s rear window riddled with nearly a dozen hail holes. Other cars have shattered glass and massive dents, proving just how brutal the storm was.

Storms Pound Southern Spain

Almería wasn’t the only victim. Severe weather swept southern Spain, drenching Granada, Murcia, and Valencia. Dólar in Granada recorded a staggering 148mm of rain, while Caravaca de la Cruz in Murcia and Carcaixent in Valencia saw 104mm and 85.8mm, respectively.

Floods Flood Streets, Emergency Crews Struggle

Floodwaters overwhelmed Almería, making life tough for locals and emergency workers. In Murcia, roads turned into torrents with residents forced to wade through ankle-deep water. Firefighters battled non-stop, shutting down parts of the city centre due to severe flooding.

This chaos follows similar storm havoc on Spain’s Costa Blanca just months ago. Meanwhile, the Costa del Sol enjoyed sunshine and warm 26°C (78°F) temps – a welcome relief for holidaymakers like UK visitor Sally Jones.

“I was in desperate need of sunshine. The weather’s been gloomy back home,” said Sally, adding her friends on the Costa Blanca were regretting not joining her in sunny Marbella.

Local authorities are still assessing the full damage as cleanup continues. But one thing’s certain: Almería’s latest hailstorm was a brutal blow.
