Shock Drink and Drug Drive Busts Over Festive Season
Police officers from the Roads Policing Unit cracked down hard on impaired drivers throughout December 2022. As part of Op Limit, the national campaign targeting drink and drug-driving, cops arrested hundreds suspected of getting behind the wheel under the influence.
Huge Numbers Nabbed for Drink and Drug Driving
- 136 charged with drunk driving
- 91 caught drug driving
- 22 failed to provide a specimen
Chief Inspector Craig West, Head of Roads Policing, warned: “Driving after just one drink can double the chances of having a collision. Get behind the wheel at twice the legal limit and you’re 30 times more likely to cause a crash.”
Festive Season Drinking Puts Everyone at Risk
The New Year period is always a hotspot for drink and drug driving offences. That’s why officers say these tough campaigns aren’t just a winter thing – they need to run all year round.
“No matter the day, don’t drive if you’ve had any alcohol or are impaired by prescribed or illegal drugs,” warns West.
“We’re dead set on changing bad driving habits to keep everyone safe on our roads.”
