Ashford Man Jailed for Knife Threat During Woman’s Assault Arrest
Ashford local Kuislend Dishi tried to pull a knife on police officers while being arrested for assaulting a woman. The 23-year-old, from Tufton Street, was locked up for one year and eight months at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday, 30 April 2020.
Threats and Violent Attack
- On 3 March, Dishi sent chilling messages to a woman he knew, threatening to kill her and claiming he had a gun.
- The next day in Ashford, he grabbed the same woman and tried to drag her toward his car.
- Police arrived following reports that a woman was being followed.
Knife Attack Foiled by Brave Officers
When police moved to arrest Dishi, he reached for a five-inch fixed-blade knife in his pocket. One officer stopped him from fully drawing the blade. Dishi then fled but was quickly chased and caught with help from a member of the public.
Multiple Charges and Court Admission
- Dishi faced charges of assaulting two emergency workers, malicious communications, common assault, and possession of a bladed article.
- He initially denied all offences but admitted guilt at court.
PC Ryan Kelly, Kent Police’s investigating officer, said: “Dishi’s actions would have been terrifying for his female victim, the two police officers and the member of the public who assisted. I would like to praise the bravery of all of them.”
“Kent Police takes a zero tolerance approach to knife crime and we will seek to prosecute anyone found carrying a blade on our streets.”
