Racist yob Aaron Trotter gets 15 months for spitting at cops and paramedics
Kent thug lashes out during arrest
Aaron Trotter, 33, from Gillingham, went on a violent rampage after Kent Police were called to a disturbance at a residential home. While in custody, he launched racial abuse at a policeman multiple times.
The yob admitted to four counts of assaulting emergency workers, one charge of racially aggravated harassment, and breaching a restraining order.
15 months behind bars plus extra time for breaking the law
At Maidstone Crown Court on 29 October 2020, Trotter was slapped with a 15-month prison sentence for the assaults, plus an extra 18 weeks for activating a suspended sentence – to be served back-to-back.
Incident details: from the streets to the hospital
- Trotter was arrested early morning on 3 September after breaching a restraining order against a woman known to him.
- Kent Police found him walking two American bulldogs in Chestnut Avenue.
- Initially, he refused to cooperate and threatened to set his dogs on the officers.
- Suspected to be under the influence, an ambulance was called.
- Upon medical crews’ arrival, he spat at two police officers and an ambulance worker trying to treat him.
- Even at hospital, he spat at a third officer and hurled racist slurs.
Officers and paramedics hit back
“Trotter’s behaviour fell far below what’s acceptable,” said Police Constable Jennifer Talan, lead investigator. “An innocent woman was put through distress due to his restraining order breach. Then he launched degrading assaults and racist abuse at emergency workers who treated him with respect.”
“Officers face danger daily, but being attacked while keeping the public safe is unforgivable. I’m glad the courts handed down a custodial sentence—this shows zero tolerance for this behaviour.”
Will Bellamy, South East Coast Ambulance Service’s Medway and North Kent Unit Manager, said: “Our frontline clinicians are here to help – not to be attacked or abused. “This conviction warns others that aggressive abuse against emergency services won’t be tolerated. “Such attacks leave lasting physical and emotional scars. We stand firm in supporting criminal proceedings to protect our staff.”
