The body pulled from the River Dart on Friday, January 17, has been confirmed as 79-year-old David Evans. The Dartmouth pensioner disappeared nearly a month earlier on December 20, sparking a massive search.
Massive search ends in tragedy
Devon and Cornwall Police launched a wide-scale hunt after concerns were raised for David’s wellbeing. Volunteers, rescue teams, and officers scoured the area, desperate for answers.
A police spokesperson said:
“We can confirm that the body recovered from the River Dart on January 17 has been formally identified as 79-year-old David Evans, who had been reported missing from Dartmouth on December 20. His family has been informed, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. A file will now be prepared for the coroner.”
No signs of foul play
Authorities have not revealed how David died and have stated there is no suspicion of anything suspicious at this stage. A coroner’s inquest will look into the cause of death in due course.
