Two Arrested After Deadly Bradford House Fire Kills Mum and Three Kids

Tragedy Strikes West Yorkshire Family

A devastating blaze in Bradford has claimed the lives of a mother and her three children. Bryonie Gawith, 29, died at the scene of the fire on August 21. Her children — Denisty, 9, Oscar, 5, and baby Aubree Birtle, just 22 months old — were rushed to hospital but sadly died from their injuries.

Two men, aged 36 and 45, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. A third man, 39, was also arrested at the scene but remains in critical condition. Police confirmed he was the ex-partner of a woman visiting the family at their Westbury Road home.

Neighbours Recall Horror as Flames Engulf Home

Locals described seeing thick smoke and hearing screams as the fire raged through the house just after 2am. One resident said: “Flames and smoke were coming out of the house. The whole area was filled with thick smoke – it looked like fog. It was overwhelming.”

Another witness recalled firefighters rushing into the burning home while neighbours bravely tried to help. “It was terrifying,” they said.

Police Launch Full Investigation as Family Mourns

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson of West Yorkshire Police said: “This is a live and active investigation with extensive inquiries ongoing. Specialist officers are supporting the devastated family and we ask for their privacy at this difficult time.”

Tributes have poured in for Bryonie and her children, described by relatives as a “joyful, bubbly, beautiful woman” whose warmth touched many lives.

Investigation Continues — Police Appeal for Witnesses

The scene remains cordoned off as forensic teams work to determine the fire’s cause. Police are urging anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact them on 101, quoting log 107 of 21 August. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
