Armed Police Swamp Portsmouth Nightclub After Massive Brawl

Armed officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police, backed by the Royal Navy Police, stormed a Portsmouth nightclub in the early hours of Friday. Emergency services descended on the scene shortly after 3am near Liquid & Envy on Stanhope Road.

Massive Police Presence Blocks Streets

Two police vans and several other vehicles blocked parts of Stanhope Road as six police units, including armed officers, and an ambulance secured the area. Witnesses say the heavy police presence was impossible to miss.

Violent Brawl Rocks Post-Gig Crowd

The disturbance erupted just as clubbers were leaving a sold-out J Hus concert. A mass fight involving a large group of males broke out outside the venue. Five men reportedly attacked one victim, who suffered a head injury and was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

“It was pretty scary. We came out for a good time but left on a negative. The police weren’t taking any nonsense and quickly broke it all up. There was a hell of a lot of police, some of them armed,” said one university student eyewitness.

One Arrest Made, Investigation Underway

An 18-year-old man is receiving hospital treatment after suffering head injuries. Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man from Portsmouth has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and is currently in custody.
